Best Outdoor Wifi Access Point: UAP-AC-M-PRO

Many Wifi Access Points could be used by out doors, as long as it has the outdoor ratings, and weather protection. But in order for better coverage, a couple of important factors should be considered.

1. Does the AP support Mesh technology if you need to cover remote area that no ethernet backhaul is available. That means the Access Point needs to get uplink through wireless, and provide wifi for downstream devices and/or Access Points.

Almost all Unifi APs are capable of Mesh, even if it does not have “Mesh/M” in their names. For example, UAP-AC-PRO, Nano HD, HD, inWall HD etc.

2. Ourdoo rating. For UniFi, here is a list of APs that are capable of being outdoor installation:

  • HD
  • flexHD
  • AC PRO
  • UAP-AC-M
  • UAP-AC-M-PRO

3. Best Antenna for remote back haul and range:

UAP-AC-M-Pro equipped 3 internal Antennas with 8dbi gain, and omnidirectional. This gives super sensitive back haul if used in Mesh scenarios, and could provide long reach to devices with weaker transmitter.

Compare UAP-AC-M-Pro with the lower tier version of UAP-AC-M, it’s got much better internal antenna. So it’s well worth the $50-$80 additional price tag, if the form factor is not an issue.
